Do-it-yourself clinker-walls made of brick-slips

You need:

Brick tiles made by Daalton in hollän-
dischen Waalformat (Dutch Waal-formate)
(you need about 1 for about 1 qm)

    Please fix the two roof battens vertically in the

    corners of the wall. Please mark the necessary

    height for the brick-slips and the joints on the 

    roof battens (from the ground to the ceiling)

    finished marking of height for the brick-slips

    plus joints (for example: a height for the brick-

    slips of. 50 mm + 14 mm for the joints - total

    space between each mark = 64 mm)

    Now please stud the marked points on the roof

    battens with nails. Please verify by use of a

    water level that the marks at the lower ends of

    both battens are made right by the plummet in

    order to make it possible to lay the bricks clean

    and vertically please put a lacing cord around

    the lowerest marks on the battens.

    You can easily stretch the cord by attaching

    weights to each of its ends.

    Now please apply the ready-prepared bonding

    agent with a smoothing trowel according to the

    application-instructions of the manufacturer.
    Now distribute it with a rough toothed spattle.
    Other possibility: Apply the bonding agent

    directly on the brick-slips and put them on the

    wall by slightly moving them from right to left

    and vice versa on the layer of bonding agent.
    Now please continue with the first row of brick

    slips and use the stretched cord for orientation

    The lateral spaces will be done by the eye.

    For the second row, please stretch the cord

    over the second mark.
    You continue this way until you reach the ceiling

    In order to achieve a beautiful look of the wall,

    please form an offset of about ¼ or ½ brick-tile

    from row to row.
    For the spaces please cut a brick-tile into

    shape and put it in the right place by careful

    hammer strokes.

    Finally point the joints of the wall.

    Carefully moisten the ready-made mortar and

    carefully press it in the joints with a pointing

    trowel.
    You can achieve a nice effect if the layer of

    mortar is about 5 mm deeper than the surface

    of the rows of brick-slips (the layers of mortar

    are lower; mortar and brick-slips are not on the

    same level of height).

    Please put the clinkers for one row out of

    different boxes in order to achieve an uniform

    and homogeneous range of shades.

    It is also possible to fix the clinkers on stable

    and dry walls made of wood, plaster or

    chipboards.
